I understand that you are considering Sharon Landers for the position of City Manager in your city. I have had the pleasure of knowing Sharon for three years. I was on the Council when we first appointed Sharon as our first female city manager in May 2019 and was subsequently elected to be Mayor in the November 2020 election. I greatly enjoyed working with her in both of my roles. During the time she was with us at Carson, she and I developed a wonderful working relationship.
Carson is a diverse community with a population of just under 100,000 residents, Sharon was present at all our community events and prided herself on being very accessible to residents, businesses, and developers, and had an open-door policy for our employees. I found her leadership and management style to be positive and forthcoming. She was extremely creative and showed great foresight when we were thrust into the unprecedented COVID pandemic, demonstrating her ability to think outside the box time and again. She put the City on a good financial footing with our first structurally balanced budget in 13 years and she strengthened our partnerships with our university and our business and community leaders.
She is very energetic, has high values and integrity, is a dynamic team leader and is also personable and engaging. She was always available whenever I reached out to her, even if she was at home or it was the weekend and was 100% committed to improving the quality of life for our community.
Sharon is missed here in Carson, but I know that she will be a valued asset wherever she chooses to go next.
– Lula Davis-Holmes, Mayor of Carson
